Took a little break from lawn labors and snapped these.
Great shots Sherry!!! The first shot is a beauty, but what kind of bird is the second one, have never seen one like that??

Thanks for looking and your comment, Angela. The second is an indigo bunting. Last year I had dozens visiting for a few weeks. He is still putting on his breeding plumage. He will be a deep dark blue with a bluish/purple head with a couple of brown bars on his wings. Very pretty -- I will be so glad to have them return. They summer in virtually the entire eastern US. You may have one visit!
Gorgeous shots of your hungry little visitors, Sherry! We have only one Indigo Bunting so far, and the Pine Siskens have run off almost all the Goldies. Just a handful of those left but plenty of buzzing Siskens. No sign of any Grosbeaks yet.

Thank you, again, Donna. The Sisken was eating at the finches fav feeder, but I didn't know they would run off the goldies! I am surprised they are still here (still have a couple dozen hanging around) - seems that they were way gone by this time last year.
I am so anxious for the Rose-Breasted Grosbeaks to return. They are so pretty!
About a week ago, just before dark, I had a sighting of one solitary waxwing. I have been searching the treetops for them every time I go outside. No luck.
I'm seeing the waxwings in the evenings when they come to the bird baths, Sherry, but I don't see them every day. I haven't even seen any in the crab apple tree, and it's in bloom. They usually eat the petals but so far not this year.
