I have more lenses that any sane person I know..... to the point that I think it has become an affliction for which there is NO cure! I'm now buying duplicates of a lens I already own! Case in point: I already owned a very nice copy of a SMC Pentax-A 70-210mm lens. I love it. It's exceptionally sharp, color rendition and saturation is what Pentax lenses are famous for and it's 8 aperture blades produces some wonderful bokeh. An added, often used feature is it's close focus (1:4) ability. But, when I had the opportunity to buy ANOTHER one.... in EX condition.... for $18.00, what was I to do? What WAS I to do?
I have been looking for a SMC Pentax-F 35-70mm lens to go with my Pentax-F 70-210mm. I saw one on eBay last night, being offered in combination with the other of the "triplets," the Pentax-F 35-105mm. A "Buy it Now" price of $79.00 for both. They were in EX+ condition, but I resisted the temptation and went to bed. Just after I turned off the lights, I said,....."Aw, what the hell!" I got up, went BACK on eBay and bought them! So now, I have the famous "Triplets." What was I to do? What WAS I to do?
Yep..... Lens Herpes. It's incurable.... and might eventually prove fatal!

Get control, man! With that $18 you could have bought half a tank of gas! :D

Maybe for a Honda, but not a Silverado.

$18 bucks? Thats like 2 or 3 cups of coffee at Starbucks. Not enough to be concerned about. Seems like a really good deal to me. Congrats.
Exactly, Bob! To me, $18 bucks was a no-brainer! My daughter is becoming interested in photography and I can see it possibly ending up in her camera bag at some point!

Unlike true love, herpes is forever.
The last thing you want is your images breaking out in random spots or sores.
I really hope you are wrong!
Enjoy your hobby. I like lenses, too. They compel my eye.
I sense an urge to own lenses for their expression of design beauty, and for the notion this or that lens will capture the best photograph.
Duplicate lenses? That's not a good sign.
Cure:
First, you need to remove the source of temptation. Stay away from eBay, Craigslist, etc. At least for a good while. You can't crave for deals you don't know exist.
Secondly, spend time really getting to know the lenses you already have rather than dreaming about new ones.

So many choices. What
are we to do? I know. Forget the coffee. :? ;)
I've found over the years that lenses, much like people, each have their own personalities. Case in point: I have a Vivitar 28-210mm lens that, after shooting some test shots shortly after receiving it, was very disappointed in it's "sharpness." I have several other older Vivitar-M and "A" lenses and all are exceptionally sharp, but this one was.... well, not exactly blurry.... but.... I guess you could say "soft." One day, I was walking into my kitchen and the morning sun was shining through the window onto a fresh bouquet of flowers. They looked rather nice in that particular light, so I decided to photograph them. My tripod happened to still have the "soft" Vivitar lens and camera on it, so I said, "Aw, what the heck, I'll give it one more chance." The included photo is the result. The "softness" gave the image the something special it needed, rather than the razor's edge sharpness I THOUGHT it needed. The lens became one of my favorite for portraiture, giving the "Hollywood starlet" treatment to my subjects.
And yes, there is something very compelling about the older Pentax and Vivitar lenses.... their astounding quality of build.... all metal and glass. The heft and sturdy feel is very reassuring in a lot of respects.

On what camera are you putting all these beautiful Pentax lenses?
