Got this in the wild this morning, mama eagle landing and one of the babies peeping up at her. Taken a friend's lake property, eagles have nested there for the past seven years in the same nest. We set a 30' extension ladder against a tree about 35 yards from the nest tree.

Great shots! In the first one, it looks like the bird is growing right out of the tree!

Thanks a bunch, yeah those little critters get spastic when mom and dad are bringing food, they're bouncing all around the nest in anticipation. These are about 3 1/2 weeks old and are molting, the grey fuzz is being replaced with real feathers, in 4 more weeks they'll be trying their wings. They grow so fast you can see the difference every day.

Thanks, yeah the first one are of the ugliest kids on the lake, in a few weeks they'll be brown all over and flying. Mom and dad will be teaching them to hunt, that is fun to watch. They won't get their white heads and tails until a couple years.

Nice. The second picture looks like he - she - is posing for a coin portrait.

A 30' extension ladder?!

Jerry, we strapped the top of the ladder to the tree, don't want it moving around too much, however the wind got up a bit one morning and it did get a little uneasy. Doesn't bother me much, I've spent lots of time working from ladders in 46 years in the sign business. She's a regal bird for sure.

Thanks, I guess you could say they're so ugly they're cute with a face only a mama could love, and she must love them, she takes great care in providing them lots of fish, frogs and ducks while the male guards the nest. Last year I found a site that has a nest camera set up and it shows live video of a pair with their young. Do a web search for Berry College Eagle Cam. You can even watch at night with their infrared cam.

Thanks, I've been trying for a couple years to get a decent shot of them. Got a few that were pretty good but always from too far a distance to have much detail using a Canon 100-400L on a T3i. The property owners have had a couple 16x20's printed on canvas but I was never really satisfied so when they offered to let me set up a ladder close enough to the nest to get a better shot I was thrilled and with the new 7DmkII the detail is a slight bit better also.

Thanks Yooper, I get photoxicated with my camera around those birds, they're so majestic and graceful it's hard to not want to get better shots every time I go out there, gonna keep trying for that 'once in a lifetime' photo. There's a Youtube video by Arkive of an Osprey (the eagle's cousin) that is amazing showing how they catch fish, very interesting in how agile these large birds can be, and how accurate they are at catch prey.
