I've got some of those Sony disk shots too. There weren't no mega in my pixels from those pictures. Mike
Absolutely a C-133. They were grounded by the USAF because of a main reduction gear problem on the engines that caused the prop to become a saw when the prop departed the engine and went through the fuselage a couple of times. These were stationed at Dover AFB, Del and Travis AFB, Calif and flew the oceans. We used to see them almost every day at Tachikawa AB, Japan until they grounded them in 62-63.
Question though..... What is that atop the $1.19? It appears to be a jet engine. I didn't think they had JATO (jet assisted take off - usually a rocket engine arrangement) on the C-119. But, it sure looks like a jet engine. Heaven knows that that beast needed all the help getting into the air that it could get.

yes, It is a jet engine
Went looking on Google. Appears that Fairchild created a 'G' model that has that engine. Interesting. Guess they realized the lack of power with only two fans too.
Also noticed the UH-16B. Knew that girl as the SA-16. Got one ride on her in '62. Noisy, but nice flying.

You sure thats a C-119, looks like a plane the Russians built, think they called it the YAK.
At one time, a company at Torrance Airport, CA (now, Zamparini Field) installed jet engines on flying boxcars to assist in short take off capability.

Right On, your correct it is C-119 What about these other 2
Hawkens and Fairchild C-119
Beechcraft C-45H
Douglas A-1 Skyraider
The C-45 Expeditor is missing Sky King and niece Penny standing outside with their cowboy hats on.
The A1 was a Navy thing and I wore the wrong shade of blue for them. I was in Shade 84 USAF blue. We did see them down in Nam though.
I loaded fish 'totes' on 'jet Boxes' (jet engine equipped C-119 in 1980 on the beach at Bristol Bay, Alaska. They not only used the jet to help get off the beach, they started them before they landed in case they happened to fine a soft part of the beach and started digging a furrow. They needed the extra power to get back in the air try to land again.
