I need some help. I took 1300+ pictures of local ice skating club"s exibition and had requests to view them online for purchasing of prints. Does anyone in UH land have any advise or experience. Thanks in advance.

You want to put 1300+ in an on-line gallery for people to view? Personally, I think you need to scale back on the amount you want to put up, from a client view point after the first hundred or so, I'm going to get bored and close your website and move on with no purchase made.

I agree with MWAC...

MAYBE 100 shots that would appeal to a wide range of people...but that's the extreme end of it.

Try and distribute the shots to every kid gets to be the focal point of a shot or two

There were 25 different skaters over the coarse of 2 hours
I was not going to upload all of them but I need a place to upload them for people to see.

if there were 25 skaters I would post the 2 best of each skater for a total of 50 pictures. You can set up a flickr account and let the people view them there (free!).

I have used shutter fly websites which are free and you have to set up a password and user name. People can go on there and view the photos and then order prints from shutter fly or download them to their computer to send to other photo processing places or even to target 24hr photo processing in your area. As MWAC said, flickr account is another one, but I have never used that one, just shutter fly.

Better put a watermark across them or you won't be selling anything. People will just download and print what they want. Most will have no idea how to remove the watermark.

If you were able to take the names of the skaters & merge them with their photos each skater would have their own folder, this way they don't have to go through hundreds of photos finding their images. & you would probably do well with orders.
I use eventpix.com. there is a feature button to view by categories, where you can create files by last name.

My client clicks on their name and all and only their photos come up. If you didn't pre-plan with last names, there is a film strip at the bottom that you can easily browse forward through the files until you find your childs group of photos . You can also do your copyright. However this site is not free. for a 1300 photo upload it $19.95for 60 days. there is a sliding scale for less photos. there is also $50.00 per year fee. the only photo people can print is your welcome to that particular event photo that you create, other than that they can't print with a right click, nor drag and drop on your desktop.

I use this site for my college graduations, & action shooting and generate a lot of orders, however you have to pre-plan your event, & get the word out PRIOR to your event as well as handouts AT the event!
Good luck

I agree with MWAC 1300 photos that people have to look through will get bored, unless there is a structure that they can pinpoint their child quickly good luck!

Yes. Remember the difference between a "bad photographer" and a "good photographer". A "bad photographer takes 10 pictures and shows them to you. A "good photographer" takes a hundred pictures and shows you the best 10.

Putting 1300+ pictures for someone to see is like cornering them to watch your home travel movies. Don't do it.

"High grade" the pictures and only pick out the best ones to show. How many? Well, figure how long someone will spend looking at each picture, and then put about 15 minutes worth of the best pictures you have. Then, put a message saying that you have more, and that if anyone wants to see them, you can send them via private email.
