I shot this behind a school in a desert area within walking distance from my house. I call these cactus, "beaver tail" since this is what we are familiar with. Camera is a 6D shooting Aperture priority at f-11. ISO was at 100 and shutter speed somewhere around 1/200. These are all handheld since my tripod would not go that low and my knees are not built for this either. Lens was a Canon L 24 to 105 mm. I also used an Olympus 50mm macro with bellows for the yellow flower. Again, handheld. That one was tough! Well enjoy the flowers. All from the Las Vegas aera.

That's the thing about living in Lost Wages, there's always desert within walking distance. :)

Thanks Ed. I am a California transplant. Moved to Lost Wages in 2009 and have not regretted it. Too much political BS in Cal especially when they re-elected Gov Moonbeam for a second time!!! Hey, they don't make this up!!! PS. more pics of the desert blooming

Nice set Bill.
Thanks, ebbote, glad you like it. And you thought we only harvest tourists for their coin!!!
Well Bill, over the years I have been in Vegas many times, I
didn't go for the scenery, only went to help Vegas pay for its light bill, as all tourists do.

Same here, California transplant. Been here in Carson City for 10 years now. Besides the liberal Democrat philosophy in California there is the traffic congestion, hordes of people, the high prices on just about everything and the taxes. The nice thing about this area of Nevada is we have mountains to the west and desert to the east. Plus there is a fairly spectacular lake within about a 20 minute drive from here.

I envy you, Ed. The only mountains we have here is Mt. Charleston. Not bad, but... How about the Railroad there in Carson City, the V&T. Great shots of that r/r. I'll bet. We only have a GP-30 and an old FM H 12-44. No steam here.
Two very different sets of pictures but both excellent.
