If you have a quality photo store, they usually have software that will tell you. Nikon says there is a file somewhere that can be accessed maybe through Nikon View that will do the same but I've never found that file. I have a utility called FoCal that give me that information

There are lots of ways, some better than others. I use Irfanview (free). If you get it, download the plug-ins with it.

Get Irfanview (free) and also get the plug-ins for it. Start the program, open a photo, click on Image > Information > Exif info.
Get ExifInfo - also free. Unzip and get the icon onto the Desktop. Find a photo and drag it onto the icon. A window will open with loads of info. Look down the list for Shutter Count (or whatever they call it).

Just up load your latest photo and it'll give you your shutter count. Works like a charm.

Pull up the site and just follow the prompts. Very easy. May take a little time depending on your computer.

The important issue is what is the significance of the count once you know it? I.e.,how many clicks is too many when you are purchasing used?

I get it on Picasa. There's a menu on the right side that tell's you all the setting's used in the photo you have up. Go all the way to the bottom and it will be there.
