Took my new Nikon D3100 for a drive in the Kentish countryside. For friends across the pond who do not know English geography, Kent is in the SE of England and is known as The Garden of England. We grow a lot of fruit.
Thought you might like to see a couple of shots.
I am very happy for criticism.I am new to DSLR having been dragged kicking and screaming from film and I know they are not up to the standard of much of what I see on this forum.

These are a bit too light for my taste. Colors are dull. Use the histogram or bracket you exposures.

Also, these pictures look out of focus. The foreground seems sharper than the background.

I did film from 1959 until about 2005. Digital is so much better. The principles and ends are still the same but the means are altogether different. Be patient and I think you will appreciate the difference as your experience grows.

You might try the landscape scenery mode or adjusting your picture control to vivid. Or use aperture mode or P mode to get an f-stop of 5.6 or higher to get the depth of field you want for these.

Make sure you haven't inadvertently set your exposure control to overexpose; e.g. +2/3.

Check your light meter settings. These should work fine with matrix metering on auto. Make sure that the red dot highlighted when you push the release half-way is out there where you want it.

I think your white balance is OK...probably on auto...but you may want to try manally setting it to cloudy or shade when that is the case.
