Dunottar Castle.
Uuglypher reminded me that I had a much-photographed tourist attraction on my doorstep, and I haven't gotten around to photographing it yet. So I went down there today, probably not the best time of day (early afternoon) but if I'd gone earlier the shadows would have been even worse due to the sun being behind the castle. As it is, I had bright sunlight and lots of deep shadows to deal with.
There are other views of Dunottar that I couldn't get because of the very deep shadows from some angles, so I left it for another day.
The best photos that I've seen of Dunottar Castle were taken from a helicopter - that's definitely for another day (if/when I become rich and famous :-D ).

Thank you Dan, and thanks for taking the bother to download.
What stories are hidden in those walls? I really do like the last one - it's the kind of path I'd like to walk.
Seeing that modern metal scaffold on that old castle makes it rather incongruous. Nice shots all the way around!
Would have been really great without the scaffolding but that can't be avoided. Nice series.

According to the link provided by Nikonian, the site has been a stronghold for seven millennia. If you like the last picture, you'd love the cliff-top paths that go north and south from there. Thanks for commenting, Travelerted.

Thanks for commenting, Moxie. I would have preferred it without the scaffolding, but unfortunately I wasn't consulted before they erected it (most inconsiderate :) ).
Thanks for the links, Douglass. The first link shows a shot that I wanted to get - the entrance to the castle with cliffs on either side. Unfortunately the spot that it was taken from was fenced off (presumably for safety reasons). Maybe if I sneak back when there's no staff about......

Thanks Jeanbug. Yes, the scaffolding is an unwanted addition, but I can appreciate their need for roof repairs :) .
Great shots, thanks for sharing.
Nice photos. Being geographically impaired with regard to Scotland, is the castle anywhere near Cupar, where my great-grandfather was from?
