These are taken with my sealife (old) Thinking of going to a Canon d10 or Nikon coolpix aw100. Any suggestions?
The Canons have a very accurate While Balance setting which you'll want to use _all the time_. I had a Coolpix, but the camera simply wasn't 'enough' and I sold it very quickly and went to a Canon. One thing you'll find with the 'underwater' cameras is that their lenses aren't that great. If you're just having fun documenting your time underwater, they'll be just fine. If however, you're trying to get great U/W shots, then you'll likely become disillusioned in short order. I've found that there's no substitute for a good land camera in a quality housing.
After I read this, Kevin, I looked up a housing for my Canon t3i. If I get it, I'll need to get a loan. Although that would be great and I'm just kidding you, I almost choked when it said $1300. That's more than my camera. I did have my initial cameras in housings until I found my D10. Like I said, I love it because of vision problems and I don't have to have a housing, but I know what you're talking about.
Oh, and by the way, after my Grandchild comes and the initial "new" wears off, we're coming back to the Big Island so I'll probly want some advice on places to go. Just remember, I get chicken of BIG waves. :D

If you want some examples of photos taken with the Canon D10 let me know. I don't want to "hog" your thread but if you want I'll post some. I was teasing Kevin but I do love my D10 since I'm doing them for myself and friends and forums like these instead of trying for professional. Also, do you snorkel or dive or both?
I truly understand the sticker shock. I paid $800 for my NEX-5 with lens, and $2000 for the housing. I'm not sorry, I am poorer. But my pictures have really improved (or rather, what I can do with them has really improved) and I worry _way_ less about flooding or other damage. I also expect this to be my last camera (until next year...)
Nice one of the spotted ray,I have yet to see one that close.and it looks like someone was eating pretty good(lobster):).
Scubadoo,
I have a photo posted of me scratching a Stingray posted in photos. If you approach them very slowly they will stay and you can do the same. May take a while but worth it to see them shiver.
George
George, I'll keep looking for that photo,is it in the main page on the forum in (photo gallery)? Still figuring this place out,but I'll get there:) I went to the search and typed in stingray, but didn't get much.
