Great perspective - but looks scary, like you could end up with several hundred pounds of players in your lap!

thanks everyone. I was playing with a couple of new lenses -- a Sigma 24-70 2.8 and the Canon 70-200 2.8 IS USM II. Both get a big thumbs up from me

Good shots.
I read on here repeatedly that the lighting in gyms are not good. These shots don't seem to suffer from poor lighting. What ISO were you shooting at?

the lighting was pretty bad, but I had a couple of fast lenses. When I had it on auto ISO, it would bump to 6400 which produced a lot of grain. I liked it better in the 4000 range and then I was able to clean up the noise in post-processing

Once you get the 7D mkII all will be fine.

Good. I have a 7D then purchased the MkII a couple of months ago. The main reason for buying it was it's ability to handle low light better.
