She looks like she is being yelled at. If this isn't the defining moment, I don't know what is. Great job capturing her right between the two yellers. Really nice job on bringing out the tones and textures in this one.

Great shot Graham the various textures and shades of brick just draw me into the scene. I think they are 2 tenors serenading the passer byes

Graham.

A marvelous moment in time captured in perfect light. The photograph could stand alone without the figure but seeing it handled so well begs the question, does it not!

It is probably as strong in b/w as it could possible be. Personally, I would like to see a colour version. I know your taste is impeccable and we have all grown to trust it. Still.....

I love that you seem to always incorporate some messages in your work of the people. Some might say that the sign on the left side is superfluous. They would be wrong.

I could live with a much cropped version with the white wall, yellers and woman. I would have been tempted to do that. Your inclusions of the life of the street is much stronger than a mere "artistic" version of the event ever could be.

Only have one question. I'll PM it.

I completely agree with Jim. I like the way you have it framed .. no cropping. The girl needs that room to escape the yellers and it includes the street.

Strong, emotion-laden image with well-planned composition. I'm grateful (for the young lady) that she has abundant space ahead of her to escape into...I want to encourage her to quicken her step!
Yes...an image that engages the viewer.

Graham, if you hadn't labeled it "Tension" I might have let it go as the "defining moment" that it is. But by composing it by placing the woman according to the Rule of Thirds (or Golden Ratio grid) you are creating harmony, ie. decreasing tension. By using the GR concept, placing the woman's head as close to dead center (by cropping) you will be enhancing the tension. The viewer would feel more uncomfortable. In my opinion it would make it much more powerful.

Thank you for commenting gdwsr, my title "Tension" wasn't referring to compositional tension. I composed and cropped this very deliberately to accentuate the statement that the street artist was trying to convey with his work. The tension between the rival factions, the right wing nationalist extremist and the Islamic Fundamentalist fanatic. The artist also demonstrates that although the two would consider themselves to be poles apart in their allegiances they are indeed very similar in many ways. The girl is displaying nervous tension in her posture, seemingly in a hurry to get beyond the threatening images. I included the owls as a metaphor, the wisdom of owls juxtaposed with the foolishness of the extremists and as a little frivolity in a harsh urban environment.
