So here are a couple of shots from the dress rehearsal last night. I played between P and S mode along with ISO and Shutter speed. I usually do P mode for these, but do get more blur then wanted. I took these in raw, D7000, 18-105 mm 3.5 - 5.6 lens; my main point for these pictures was to work with the light and 'dial it in' per say for my camera's settings. I'll be at the theater this afternoon for full dress rehearsal and tonight for the actual show. No flash is allowed and I have special permission to take the pictures. Go for it and provide any advice and criteque you have, I'm open to what you throw at me. I did do a little PP to lighten the pictures and bring in some of the highlights, let me know if I did to much in pp or to little.

I downloaded them and ran them through LR. I just set WB to "auto" and it looked a lot better. The exposure is a bit low, as well but I don't think you can do much for that. I tried to bump it up but got too much noise. If you're still in test mode, you can try to bump the ISO but it may be too noisy.

Thanks, you can repost the pics if you want. Do you have an exposure in mind? The lighting changes drastically throughout the show, within minutes I have only tree lights (lights off stage), the next reds (hate them) and then blues and greens. I tried bumping up the ISO, but lose alot and get more grain then I want. I'm just going to review tonight's performance; the only down fall was I was up in the balcony and had to use the 55-300mm 4.5 - 5.6. I know one of these days I'll get the zoom with the low f stop. I appreciate your suggestions.

Both histograms indicate a lot of data lost in the dark areas. Focal length on the second was around 60mm, so if you had a "nifty fifty" f1.4 or f1.8 lens (or could borrow or rent one) you might have more success.

Thanks, I knew I was going to lose some to the dark side (lol). Sometimes I find the dark side to be nice, it brings the focus to where I want it to be, yep a nifty fifty would be nice (it's on my list); my only concern is that I would not get as detail pictures since during the shows I take the pictures in the balcony the majority of the time. I'm going to attach another photo from today's show. I like it, but am always open to feedback and any suggestions you may have. Thanks everyone.

There are a lot of trade-offs involved. Attached is your photo with a bit of dynamic lighting done to bring out some of the details in the dark (look at the difference in histograms between the original and adjusted files).
