My battery on my D800 has drained after a couple of hundred shots. Does anyone else had this issue. My D800 is a couple of years old and I seem to have gotten more life from my battery in the past. I recently purchased new batteries but still having the same results.

I normally get about 500 shots on a full battery.

I don't know number of shots but one battery charge lasts me up to a month...several hundred at least.

Make sure you haven't changed lighting up your LCD. It is the biggest battery draw. I hardly ever use mine.

I have mine set to not show the image in the LCD after the shot. Even 2 or 3 seconds view after each shot can add up. I also don't use AF much, so there's no drain there either. and I don't spend a lot of time in the menu, which can contribute to drainage. Just things to consider.

I just got back from taking almost 400 shots and I'm only down 2 bars out of 5 on my battery level indicator.

I agree that the LCD is a huge drain....

I wonder if it's possible that your charger isn't working at 100%?

The number of shots you get will depend in part on how you use the camera. With Live View you will be lucky to get 200 shots. Without somewhere between 300 and 500 would be about right depending on length of exposure, use of autofocus and the ambient temperature - the colder it is the fewer shots you seem to get.

If you use video then the battery life can go very quickly indeed.

I have 4 batteries and 2 cameras (D810, D800). I seem to never drag them down. I get close to 500 shots. I have never had on go down quickly. Live view will draw them down faster but it has never been a problem. Are you using the batteries sold by Nikon?

As david said live view will draw the battery down also gimping and movies will. I carry four spares for my two cameras

Yes I am using Nikon batteries. I seldom use live view but I do tend to use auto focus a lot.

One thing I do is shut off the LCD previews. I used to have it give me a preview for 4 seconds, and sometimes 8. I never do anything with these previews, so why even do it. So i don't now, and battery life is easily 500 or more. This on a Canon though.

Try leaving it in the camera for a week or more and see if it loses power just sitting.

You can use a different battery on the D800, EN-EL18 which will require DSTE BL-5 Battery Chamber Cover for EN-EL18 Battery Grip MB-D12. I have shot over 2,000 photos in 12 hours without the battery draining completely.

Check to see if you are walking around with the camera in the "on" position or if you are using excessive LiveView. Also check the time to 'auto off'. I can easily get 400-500 images out of my D800 battery before swapping.

I usually get about 500 shots on my D800; except, if memory serves me, when I use my 70-200 or Sigma Bigma hand held with Vibration Reduction on, I get considerably less shots. I really can't remember how many less.

Leaving the camera on doesn't do much to battery life because it goes to sleep...unless you have changed the time for it to do that.

When it goes to sleep the lens VR shuts down also. I think the lens VR is only on when focusing is happening or locked, so doubt it makes much difference either.

And what about Live View?
