Friends from West Virginia are here visiting and they noticed this "big bird" up in the tree out back. The lighting was not great - about to storm. Had the ISO at 640 then at 500. Had to also add a shot of my favorite horse, Harley. He needs a new halter!

Nice photo of the Bald Eagle and the horses. The eagle was born last year. They take 4 to 5 years to get the full white head and tail. This birds all black beak is what tell us it is just a year old.
I've seen juvenile Bald Eagles, I didn't realize they were Bald Eageles till last year.

Thank you for that info. I knew they were 5 before the head was white but did not know that about the beak.
Love the photo of Harley!
Great find on the Eagle. Just had to say Harley has a beautiful face.

Your shots are very nice, particularly the first one.
Here is a photo of a 4 year old. Notice the beak and the highly spotted feathers. During the next molt the head and tail will go all most all, if not all, white. He will be 5 at that point and considered an adult.
I have been lucky enough to see all ages this year, but unfortionatly, not able to get good photos of all of them.
Sorry, not trying to steal this thread, just trying to teach a little.

4 year old, notice the beak and head feathers. Shot at about 30 yards..
4 year old. You can see a lot of white in the tail on this shot. Unfortionatly the tip of the beak is blurred.
Notice the tail feathers and black still in the beak. I would guess a 3 year old.
Haley deserves o better background, methinks.

I have so many photos of him - just posted this when I took it the other night. Thank you for the feedback - it always helps me to learn!
