On March 12 & 13 I covered the opening rounds of the AMA Pro Flat Track series at Daytona International Speedway.
I love this event. Because the season is just starting, the bikes are shiny and clean and the riders all have nice new outfits. The light color of the crushed limestone track makes a good background, as do the grassy surroundings. I posted a couple hundred images (out of 2,000), two 1,000-word race reports and an opinion piece to my Facebook page. There's a link to my FB at the bottom of the page.
Because most of my audience consumes this through their telephones and other devices with small screens, I usually avoid long shots and tend to fill the screen with the subject and boost the saturation so hopefully they'll pop a bit. Evening shots w/flash remain a struggle but I got some acceptable results.
Typical settings would be Canon 7D w/EF70-200 IS II USM or Canon EF 24-70mm II f/2.8L USM, ISO 100 during the day, 640-800 at night, shutter priority, 1/250-320, f2.8-5.6, WB cloudy, center weighted average metering, A1 servo single point AF.

Thanks for the replies. Suggestions for settings and style are always welcome.
I go to about ten of these pro events a year, all across the country, plus as many or more amateur races. I don't have too much time to spend on PP and I edit my work pretty quickly. The events run until about 10pm. I post a story w/6-10 attached photos on a dedicated Facebook page the following morning and then post around 20 photos each day for the following week.
The images I put on FB are watermarked. I also have a Smugmug page where people can buy prints and other stuff. The Smugmug page pays for itself, and that's all I expect. Once in awhile I'll sell some pictures to a magazine or they'll land on someone's blog or a sponsor's website. If I worried about making anything off of this I'd be, well, worried. For me it's all about doing something creative, staying involved and getting on the good side of the fence.
