Does shooting in Auto or semi auto make you lazy?

I had to jump in this is such an interesting and controversial question. I shot a marathon event with 1800 runners this past weekend. At times I used intelligent auto (Sony) sometimes aperture manual and indoors at the expo a small LED light which I dialed in for a low light fill. A Sony mirrorless dslr and a Sony camcorder. Things were happening so fast at times just picked up the Camcorder in automatic like the picture I setup and shot.
To complicate things more newer hybrid reasonable camera's like the Sony a7s mirrorless and the X70 camcorder both come with video settings for looks that are created on their very expensive
camera's. And are sometimes used for color grading etc.
Another interesting aside is the client loves the video stills
I pull off of the HD video on both cameras shot at 60p. I go through and pick 40-50 of the best caught still in the footage and then do minimum post processing in Photoshop. Good luck.
