After being without my lens cap for 24 hrs, I found it in the pocket of the jacket I was wearing yesterday.
I think we discussed this before, but does anyone have a good way to keep track of lens covers - something other than a pocket? My son uses the leash system, but he had to reattach the cap holder with JB Weld after it fell off the cap. I don't like the cap dangling, and I would have to get one for each lens.
I was thinking of using male-to-male Velcro-like material. 3M makes some, as do other companies. One piece would go one each lens cap, and another would go on the camera strap.
I use my pockets. That way it is always in one of them. Just never remember witch one, but 'O' well.

This is a question for the ages..........no good answer exists.....
When I only had the 18-55 lens I would put the cap in......
.....my bra. True story.
But I have graduated to bigger lenses and bigger caps. No room for a bigger lens cap. Tee hee
I use Velcro self adhesive strips and put one or two on my camera bag, then I take little pieces of luan board about 2in squares and drill a hole in one corner and make a necklace out of it and put it around my neck, or around my tripod. I have them scattered around so I have one handy. I keep 2 or 3 in my bag all the time. About a 1 inch strip is a plenty.

That leaves me out, unless my wife is with me. I won't discuss what size lens caps she could store in there.

So you have Velcro on the camera bag and the luan, with matching strips on the caps? Then you can put them in either place?
These days I leave it in the camera bag or glove box. I get tired of taking it off and putting it back on. So I just leave it off till I'm done.

Maybe I'll try the velcro method and work on curing my depression.... :-)
Yes, I used to loose them and my end caps all the time. I use the necklace more. I use chalk line cord that is good and strong and make up some with short loops, then a couple to put around my neck if I do not want to take my bag with me.
All caps in my left pants pocket.... Always..... Matter of habit becomes automatic without any thinking.....

I tried the self-stick velcro on the lens cap thing back in the 80's, it works REALLY good! That is, until the bright sun shines on it and softens up the glue and you get a cap that gets all covered in slime when the softened glue lets go of the hot, black cap. Since almost all my lenses take a 77mm cap, I have a couple spares I carry in my cases for when I temporarily misplace one, as you did. Seems like every good idea I have ever seen has a detrimental down-side when you look at it in a practical manner. So I just keep them in my pocket and hope I don't lose one, too often anyway.

Does that mean I have to start wearing a bra? Do they come in a 52AAA?
Hire a young assistant and she can carry them for you, she might even let you retrieve them when you need one.
