I am going to do photographs for a church directory. The pictures will be taken in a room that is 20 x 24 feet. The ceiling is 20 to 25 feet high. Walls are white. Their is really no ambient light at all. I have decided to go with studio strobes. I don't know much about them except what I have read. They insist on a blue backdrop. I don't won't to pour a lot of money into this project. I am doing it as charity work for them. I am looking at two options: 1. Flashpoint (Adorama) 300w/s 2. StudioPro 300w/s would welcome any help on this subject.

As to the question, "How much strobe Power is really needed". The more light the better ( you will never be brighter than the sun). Its all about having enough light and then adjusting your camera to it. If you are going to purchase lighting, I suggest that you think about more than this shoot, but of future shoots, that may need more lighting power. If you have the budget, go for AlienBees monolight 1600W model, which will give you true 640WS max output, adjustable down to 20WS. I have been using the same set of these lights now for over 10yrs, and I use them all yr around in my business.

Honest, simple and straightforward answer that will not break the bank comes from the Capt.

Or, you can head to the bank and apply for a small loan, purchase lot's of lights, stands, triggers and modifiers. Then attend numerous workshops and set up 4 lights and take portraits with lighting that everyone will absolutely love, but they won't understand why. Lol
