Nikon D5100 in excellent condition. Kit as shown plus DVD on how to use it.

This was my first DSLR and then lightly used by my wife as I moved on. It takes excellent pictures. It has the advantages of the D5xxx's including articulated screen (illustrated), easy to use active information screen for settings, and light weight. It uses the same sensor as the much more expensive and heavy D7000: 16MP and great dynamic range.

Please post questions here.

Please PM offers.

$295 plus shipping.

I just did some checking on eBay. I probably underpriced it. But I'll stick with it.

Your giving this away MtnMan! This is a great deal for a newbie wanting to get his or her feet wet. The 18-55 is a great starter lens and actually, is very sharp. Great for anything outdoors, but not fast enough for sports.
One of the first DSLR's I owned and really enjoyed this camera. Good luck! You bought the D600?

Somewhat long story.

I originally replaced my use of the D5100 with a D7000. My wife got the D5100. I didn't like the D7000 so got a D800...which I don't see ever giving up. But if it broke I might go with the latest D6xx or D750 as my "truck camera"...i.e. the one I take when I'm staying close to the truck.

The weight of the D800 and lenses caused me to buy a Sony NEX-7. It met my "light" need and is a great camera...but going back and forth between the Nikon and Sony programming approach was annoying. So I recently decided to give up a little on the weight and got a D5300 as my travel camera. When I bought it the situation led to my wife wanting to upgrade her D5100...so here we are.

Frankly the D5300 isn't a significant upgrade to the D5100. But it solved my issue with the Sony NEX-7. If I were more frugal I'd bought another D5100 instead and been just as happy. But here we are with two 5300s and a D5100 to sell. Someone will make out on the deal.

I'm checking on this for someone else. How many shutter actuations? Do any of the books come with it? (the f'n manual, etc? had to put that in there for a few that post rtfm)

Anyway, I think she may be very interested, (I think....) right now, she's complaining that she really wishes she had the 5xxx series, because she's outgrown the 3x series.

Thanks

I have the pdf manual which I can send electronically. I also can include for no charge David Bush's book on the D5100. Although it has a couple of errors it is much better than the manual.

She can also get the pdf from Nikon and use the Nikon viewer for Android or ipad/phone. I prefer that because of search.

I'll look around for the paper manual.

I didn't get the shutter actuations. I'll check one of my wife's last images and get it. I'm sure it is well under 20,000 because that's the total images in my Lightroom from a half dozen cameras or more.

It also includes a Nikon DVD with simplified operational instructions.

My daughter-in-law got the D3100 when I got the D5100. The D5100 images are notably better. Also the D5100 has nearly all the professional functions; some of which are lacking or more difficult to use on the D3100. The D5100 articulated screen is also a great plus. One good news is that she'll find the transition to the D5100 smoothed by her experience with Nikon's menus and terminology.

Shutter count is 18,831.

I found we have a full size printed version of the manual in a notebook which I will also send along with it. That suggests to me that they didn't provide a printed version. I ended up using the pdf version or the Nikon Manual Viewer and my wife preferred David Bush's book.

Great, I'll be seeing her tonight. I'm assisting her with her first newborn shoot, so I hope to know if she's interested or not by tomorrow morning. If she is, I'll either have her pm you, or I will.

Thanks for getting back to me. Sounds like a great deal to me.

Nice! Glad you are enjoying.

I never used the various features much: mostly just P and A mode and did retouching ex-camera. The D5300 has even more. My D800 none of the scene or effects, but maybe some retouch. I need to force myself to try them out. I like the one you. Used.

Wow! What planet do you live on? (actually, I like it, but I'm a fan of things that others pick apart as "overcooked")
