Is there any kind of standard for Microfiber Cloths? I bought a lens cleaning kit from Best Buy on impulse. It was Insignia Brand. The cloth that was included left all kinds of lint. Does anyone have any recommendations for decent cloths that aren't abrasive and don't shed.

Go to any optometrist office. They have lens cloths that work beautifully. A lot of Walmarts have an optometrist store that sells the cloths.

Add Costco or SAMs Club to the list for the good ones that don't shed shop in the optical department sold for eyeglasses. ;)

Yes, I'm somewhat of an expert on said subject. For years I looked around for the original Luminex microfiber cloths and couldn't find them again until last year. The company that was importing them (Falcon I believe) changed them to another manufacturer which was not nearly as good. Anyway, most "micro-fiber" cloths are nothing of the kind. You can tell if they are by looking at them under a lupe. If the weave is extremely small & tight, and uniform, it's probably a true micro-fiber. Toray made the Luminex cloths twenty years ago, but they are in Japan. They have an office in San Fran, and may be able to tell you where you can get them in this country if you can. They work very well, and will not scratch camera mirrors if damp, never mind lenses.

There may also be other brands in this country, but in my experience they're rags masquerading as micro-fiber cloths. ;)pith

I purchased a pair of glasses from Walmart with Nikon lenses. In the case was a Nikon microfiber lens cloth. Needless to say it went instantly in my camera bag. It will work very well on my Cannon camera lenses. lol.

You will have to contact "Toray" via their San Fran office to find out where they can be bought in this country. At the time I last spoke to them they said they were working on getting an American company to carry them. That was more than a year ago, so it's likely they could tell you now who has them. If not you'll have to get them in Japan, but I can tell you they are the Bees knees. ;) pith

I got a number of microfiber cloths free with some gear I bought.
Right out of the bag they left an great deal of dust on the lens...I threw em out and bought a few from Walgreens. No dust, no lint.

At the local camera store I got a couple of little soft cuplike holders that have a micro fiber cloth attached to a cord. You pull the cloth out from the bottom to use it. They are small enough to attach to a key chain with your keys so you always have them for glasses or camera.

I've been using micro cloth made for polishing cars for years. No lint, fuzz, and soft. An entire roll of 50 sheets only cost five or six bucks. At that price I can use them many times without washing and just throw it away.
