Talk about IGHI. (I gotta have it) I just got the vertical grip for my D7100 at 1/2 price. After playing with for a while I asked myself did I really need that? Only time will tell

The Nikon OEM brand, or a knock off?
Made by Neewer so probably a knock off but works

Yes, definitely a knock off brand - I have had Mieke, and yes, they work till they don't ;)
I ended up worried that I would pull the tripod mount out of the plastic grip and damage my lens/camera in a tumble from the tripod. (The OEM mount has a magnesium alloy plates/skeleton inside the plastic like the camera.)
If you use it on a tripod or monopod, consider adding a safety strap just in case so the camera won't fall too far IF it does.
My Mieke started having electrical connection issues - even with the camera off the green activity light would light randomly while the camera was sitting on a desk, and the batteries would drain slightly while the camera sat turned off. Removing the Mieke grip resolved both problems.
I do LOVE the feel and look of a grip on the camera and will pick up another one soon, but it will be an OEM Nikon brand at the higher price ;)
The Neewer model that I got seems to be ok to fit on well. But there is button labeled as a multi selector it took me a lot of research to fond out what it did. I finally found it on utube and what that said the button was supposed to do well it appears not to work. So guess it will end up in my bag till I get tired of looking at it
