Drove out to the country to try a shot of the Northern lights tonight. No luck tho. Almost got stuck in the field tho.:) Came home and played in the yard.:)

Looks like fun to me Erv.
My skies are socked in tonight, and rain predicted for tomorrow.
Sigh... :?
So I brought my back yard observatory  indoors and playing inside tonight.
I like your tree foregrounds.
And you got some star trails, too.
:-D

Thanks Sonny! I sat out in the field for about 2 hours. But didn't see any lights.:( I did have fun trying to get out of the field tho. Have to hit the car wash in the morning. My green truck is now brown.:):)

I went scouting two weeks ago Friday.
Wanted to look at some clear sky up the canyon from me. Tried to dodge the mud holes, but my blue truck is still sporting some fling from the expedition.
Found two promising looking spots though. Now if I can get up the gumshon and some clear skies...
It's not dirty...
That's Natural Camouflage.

Nice images Erv. The last with the tree in the foreground and Orion is the sky is very cool! Thanks for sharing.

Janny wasn't to impressed.:) She thought we were sleeping in the truck for the night.:):) I love to play in the mud. But it sure makes some work getting it clean.:) I took the 78 Ford out last night. It has never been stuck.:) But I am sure my friend will not like the rutts I made in his field.:)

How is it you knew beforehand to try shooting the northern lights? I have about four hours of images but since I was attempting to get a good shot of the recent nova in Sagittarius I ended up with quite a few colorful frames but not worthy of posting since there was composition or framing other than a starfield. Thanks and I am glad to hear you didnt get stuck.
Thanks,
Matthew

Thank you John! It was very clear out and fun to just look at the stars. Was hoping to see the lights, but I guess from the shots I see on TV this morning they were low and not very bright. Orion is my favorite. Went it goes below the horizon I know it is going to get warm.:):)

Hi Matthew. We have a very good weather man on the news here and he always talks about the sky shots we can get on different things. And I have a few that take night shots with the big guns.:) That and I am outside a lot looking up.:)

Not bad shots at all! It's a good learning experience even if you don't get what you went out after! Just wondering about the brown skies, and wonder if you could PP them to get a more natural looking gray or blue?
Hi Erv,
Somehow my original post didn't make it, so I'll try again. I liked your shots, and it is good practice even if you don't achieve your original goal. I was wondering, though, about your brown sky, so decided to do a little simple PP on one of them. Hope that is ok. What do you think?
Adjusted color temperature a bit

Nice, it was too cold here to just stand outside waiting to see the Northern Lights! It was in the 20's
