I talked to a young gal who signed up for a photo course from a private school. Upon graduation, she had a nice diploma and a $60,000 school loan to pay. She was working at a respected camera store and learning more there than she did at the school. She could have gotten the same education or better from one of the local vocational or two year colleges for a lot less. She has no idea now how she will be able to pay off her loan working at a store. Not my words, they were hers. As far as a camera is concerned, she can find a Nikon d200 and a 50mm lens for about three hundred.

no that is what that online school offers better off with a kit from Costco

I would still like to know what is in the school's offered $600 package. If the course requires an "interchangeable lens system" I kind of think the package must have more than one lens. Otherwise what's the point of the requirement?
Maybe it is a t5i and two L lenses, in which case it is a great deal! But probably not.

hi Erv, that's how fast that school changes the curriculum, tried that online course to catch up to the digital age but they are expensive call constantly and the teachers are everywhere heck 1 is here on Maui, turned out when it comes finally to photos they could learn a few things from the students, a year later after the va finally stepped in the debts are paid but they still call almost like clockwork at 8;15 am

Hi AW. I can understand the limit of 8 mp's but not the camera.??? I help a friend at the JVS here and we take any camera they can afford!! It is not the camera doing the work. It is the nut behind it!:) If you can get the phone number of the teacher, I would call him/her and ask why.:) Oh! Take a look at the new Canons. They have an SX50 and SX60. They will do more than my big camera on the long side.:):) But that would give the teacher heart failure :):)

I agree with the head behind the camera. My niece does have a great head already - she's very creative both in drawing and art and behind the camera already.
I think the kit from the school contains a canon rebel?? I'm waiting to hear back from her this evening for more details.
She had a Nikon a few years ago and LOVED it and I think she really would like to upgrade to something she's actually going to love using but... time will tell.

If the TEACHER is selling the cameras, you can quickly realize why she's demanding that everybody buy one - profit in the teacher's pocket.

On the other hand, it's a degree in digital photography.
