Photoshop Brush Shortcut Nit Working

For the second time in several years the brush shortcut has stopped working in Photoshop Cc 2014. This is the shortcut where you hold down the control+alt/option key while moving the brush vertically to change the size or horizontally to change the opacity. Has anyone experienced this and do you know of a solution. I already tried restarting PS and rebooting the computer (IMac). Thanks.

Did you check your preferences? Sometimes a Windows update will reset things without notice.

I see you are a Mac user so things may not be the same. In Windows, under General Preferences, the third box from the bottom seems to control this function.
