This is a new tug - push boat up here. I saw it go by early this morning but mistook it for the Pathfinder which I already have posted on my web site. But when I checked Marine Traffic it was idintified as the Taft Beach out of the Gulf Coast. Kept an eye on it and caught it on the way down.

Can anyone shine some light on what the aft booth is used for?

I am not sure, but I think is known as the doghouse on a line boat. Doghouse is the word I hear most often in reference to the aft-facing cabin that offers good visibility of the winch and tow as well as protection from weather and parted wire. A traditional place for winch controls, in addition to directly at the winch, is at the aft end of the boat deck, often situated in a small, full-height doghouse. From there the tug skipper or mate can control movements of the winch, observing the entire deck and the tow while also controlling movements of the tug through auxiliary controls. It is an auxiliary control away from the pilothouse that offers a direct view the pilothouse doesn't have.
Well I had an idea of what it was used for but you confirm my suspecions Thank You very much
