I have a folder with 400 photos my question is what program can I use to download all of my JPG photos at once? In the past I would make a DVD and mail them, I heard you can use a program call Zip? what is the best way to go about it? Thanks

I would just do them the normal way - drag and drop. I never liked using compression programs. The make files smaller, and JPEGs have already been reduced. If you put Zip files on a DVD, the person receiving it would have to use the same program to unzip them. He would have to copy all the files to his computer and take it from there - kinda tedious.

400 photos is not that many. In the past you would mail them on a DVD now you could drag and drop the entire folder in 1 swipe to a spare 4 to 8 Gb mini sd card and mail it.

I keep my keepers on mini sd cards. Cheap easy and versatile. Can be used on most all cameras, computers, Smart phones and tablets. Adaptor to full size sd included. Buy class 10 for movies. Better yet, depending on who you mail them too, install it in a Galaxie Tab 4, 7 inch tablet for easy viewing. That way you can usb connect to transfer or swab cards for the tablet to the computer or better yet Blue tooth the transfer. I love that 7inch tablet. Makes a great gift.

Perhaps it would help some if we knew just what you are wanting to accomplish. Are you transferring from one device to another, moving from one folder to another on the same computer, uploading to social media? Need a little more info.

If you want to see all his pictures you could just ask. I am sure he will send them to you, on a spare hard disk or tablet of your choice. He seems that nice a guy to me.

I'm sure he is a nice guy, I've seen nothing to cause me to doubt that. And I have no need to see his pictures, although I'm sure they are quite fine.

He has asked a question about what software to use to perform a task but has not fully described the task he hopes to accomplish. Knowing the task can make a big difference in providing a proper software recommendation.

Jerry, zip and rar will not apply compression to already compressed files. There should be no difference in file size or image quality if you zip them. The benefit of a zip file is that you only deal with a single file for transfer, and yes, the recipient needs the software to unzip them, unless you zip them into a self-extracting zip file, which is an .exe file. Click on the filename, and the self-extractor will create a folder and place the files in it.

Most email is limited to just 20 mb, so this may not be an option.

I am not sure what the OP is trying to do - download to where?

DVD is temporary storage - the burnable CD/DVD are subject to environmental decay, and should not be used for permanent storage, if this is what he has in mind.

If he wants to send someone pictures, he might be better off using Dropbox, or other cloud service, and creating a download link to send to others.

If you are using a PC then you can use Windows Explorer which is part of the MicroSoft operating system - nothing to buy.
If you have Windows 7 Pro, when you are "in" the folder with the images you want to move - highlight them, then go to Edit - Move and specify where you want to move them to.
Not sure but I think with Windows Home you would have to copy and paste..

If you want, there are free online services where you can save a copy of photos and then give a link to an individual so they can download them directly.

Two of them are Dropbox and Copy.

I use them all the time and they are very secure.

I didn't realize that JPEGs wouldn't be compressed. As for the one large file, things like that don't appeal to me. That's why I don't use backup systems that produce one encoded file. Yes, I know there's no reason the dislike compression into a proprietary format, but that's just me. When I download a file from a site, I choose the normal file rather than zipped, if I have a choice.

Yes,it is unclear exactly what he wants to do. Another point of confusion is the interchangeable use of "upload" and "download." Major difference between them.
