I have been looking around for a nice Small back up camera to fit in my bag next to my nikon. Was looking at the sony 6000 with out the kit lens in black. Was hard to find. Now I am looking at the small point and shoot SonyLZ100 M3 what's your thoughts. Seen on the web plenty of good write ups your thoughts on an $800 point and shoot camera. The best camera is the camera that's with you. Small in the pocket carry around?

I'm seriously considering the RX 100II version. The III version has a fake pop up view finder which I would not need.
I have been reading great reviews on the RX100 series.

The RX100 III is a great camera ! The RX10 is better ! The A6000 is better yet with the right lens.

Yes some very good reviews. The 2 series is at least $100 less. I like the fact it fits in a pocket.

I have the SonyRX100M3 as my second camera for my D800 but since I do not print big size yet because I am a newbie, I don't see much difference between the two camera I have. I bought that after using the search function on this forum .Try yourself about the Search above .

It's a very nice little camera that shoots raw and has lots of controls. The "Owner's Manual" is only about 27 pages - worthless. I got a good book on Amazon. The book is thicker than the camera. I also got a nice CaseLogic case for it for extra protection. I bring it with me when I don't want to carry a big DSLR.

I just went to best buy $599 for the RX100m2 I looked at the M3 version the view finder to small for my eyes! But for a carry around instead of the D810 should be a happy change? I am not expecting that much from the sonyRX100M2, since I enjoy my Nikons and was just looking for a pocked camera. I did like the Sony A6000 but once I put the Quality lens on, I was defeating the purpose and my needs, for now. I am still looking for that special wide angle lens for my D810 night time photos 14MM ? That will be some $$

I recently went through the decision process of RX100 III vs. A6000. I personally found the RX too small to handle comfortably (and I love an older Canon s110), and my hands are not large! Furthermore, I thought the pop-up EVF was sort of a pain...but it was mainly the size/ergonomics that turned me off. I bought the a6000 with the kit lens. I love the camera...the kit lens not so much. I recently bought the Sigma 30mm 2.8 e mount lens. It's a steal for $200, and the iq with the a6000 is now superb! If you are seriously considering the RX100, be sure to hold it and see how it feels. I'd definitely opt for the a6000, and would personally buy the body without the kit lens.

I'm wanting to get a zoom to add to the mix. Thinking about the Zeiss 16-70 e mount...but the $1,000 price tag is a bit staggering. Is there another choice I should consider?

I am using the Sigma 17-70 in Canon mount with adapter = about $600 but AF is very slow. The Zeiss is the best solution in native e-mount - at this point in time . :(

Not easily available. I have some from my film days that I haven't scanned yet. I recently bought a Nikon D750 that I want to put a good lens on for photographing the aurora. I am somewhat of a night owl and check the sky before going to bed, but haven't seen much this winter, either fog/clouds or little auroral activity. Mostly, bad luck on my part, there are always great photos in the newspaper or online from readers of the Alaska Dispatch (adn.com).

I own the Sony SonyLZ100 M2 and it has one of the sharpest lenses. I do not know if the M3 has a built in flash. Mine can be tilted back so you can bounce it off the ceiling for very nice lighting. Mine also does fill flash outside with professional results. I have never traded up because I like the M2 so much. It is all metal construction and the weight feels great in your hands. It is an ideal carry always camera because it can do so many things well. No long reach telephoto in the zoom but otherwise an all nice piece. Check to see if the M3 has the built in flash that you can tilt back with your thumb.
