I seem to be behind the times and need to catch up. I purchased a Yongnuo YN560II flash unit and the manual is not clear as to how to use the ZOOM feature. Additionally I want to better understand the fact that if I zoom to the max. I over expose.
Is a detailed manual available?
Thank you,
Guy Armstrong

Guy,

I have the 568EX II, the manual clearly states the Zoom feature works in the horizontal position with the defuser and reflector tucked inside the flash unit.

In your model look in the manual for sketches depicting the flash head with reflector extended.

Guy

The YN560II is a manual flash it has no E-TTL capabilities so it does not adjust flash power when you change the zoom on the flash. For example, If you set your exposure when the flash was set to 28mm you are lighting a cone that is at a 75 degree angle. When you zoom to 85mm that same amount of light is lighting a cone that is at a 29 degree angle. You have the same amount of light in a much smaller area.

When you zoom in at the same power (narrow the angle), you get the same amount of light concentrated onto a smaller area, so it would overexpose, unless you reduce the output.
A flash that shoots TTL would compensate for the difference automatically.

With regard to my inquiry about off camera flash.
 ....You were correct that the instructions are sketchy at best in the YN 560 supplied manual and also in the user manual the just ahead of this model.
My best source of help was a review in Google and You Tube for application of the basic operation and experiences.
Thank you "guy's" for your input and suggestions.
Regards,
Guy Armstrong
