Feedback Requested
I am new to photography. I go out almost daily and practice. These photos are from yesterday, bright and sunny. I only know how to do minor adjustments in Photoshop, just purchased the software.
What would improve these photos compositionally? Do you like the colors? Brightness? Contrast?
Thanks!
Sharon
#1:
No detail in the shadows and the water is fringed blue a bit. White balance issue maybe?
#2:
Looks fine to me...possibly water is slightly grey...exposure 1/2 stop to low?

Ok....not very exciting....
I hope that helps.
I went back and viewed the original files. I have my white balance set to Auto. I will mess with my white balance - I was mostly focused on aperature and shutter speed. Shadow issue and color - I compared the original and the edited, I believe the color issue is from my editing. Thank you for your feedback.
If you want help that is accurate, follow the forum rules:
Give more information on your shoot (EXIF stuff)
post the originals, what we are looking at here are thumbnails, hardly something worth looking at.
Your white balance appears to be fine, appears being the key word.
The exposure is a bit overdone but this can be corrected easily as you did not burn anything but this, one again is 'appears'
If anyone suggest a flash fill, send them packing. You may want a reflector but once again, it may not be necessary, if the shadows are recoverable.
These three statements are under 'appear' as... well, "Where are the originals?"
What does EXIF mean? Newbie here.
Did you mean shooting data?
F11
Aperture 1/6
ISO 100
Auto WB
One of the originals

Yes....shooting data.
PS:
the 1/6 isn't aperture, the aperture refers to how much the lens opens up...that would be f/11 here.
The 1/6 refers to shutter speed in fractions of a second.
Yes, DATA is what is need.
Now the original is the picture you shot:
Click on add new attachment, browse to un-retouched file click on it, ok, then check the store original box (next to browse - right) and finally, click upload and wait for UHH to do it's magic.
EXIF is the information about the shooting data integrated into your photo. When you post the original it is always included.
Yes, I knew that...in a rush messed that up. But thanks for your patience!

Here is one more

I just reread the photo analysis posting rules. I guess this thread belongs in gallery section.
The admin will move it.
You exposed correctly, there is nothing wrong here. The use of a fill light through a reflector is the only thing that would have worked w/o damaging the highlights that exist.
If you use RAW you can exploit everything in this picture. The balance is a bit on the cold side but that maybe due to the time of the day and can be modified, even on a JPG.
Dark area, nothing to brag about but normal.
Thank you. I need to figure out how to set my photo file size to RAW on my new camera. I will look at the manual.

you are humble and willing to learn. When you go practice how much time do you allow for just sitting, observing and not trying to see the "perfect shot?" 2) a good exercise is to go out without your camera - maybe to a familiar place and just be there a bit. As you start seeing instead of mostly thinking about what things "should look like" or "how you are "supposed to make an image" then your other questions will either be answered or change or both - have fun!
Thank you. I spend hours and hours at this location. It's five minutes from my house. I hike there and hang out and sit on rocks frequently. Mostly, I use it to practice. I have a vision of what I want my pictures to look like and I am definitely not there yet. Will probably take me years but the journey is fabulously fun. The most fun I have had ever! I practice alot so I am ready for my big trips to beautiful places thoughout the US.
What is really funny to me since getting involved in photography, I see so many creative things and if it happens when I am driving, I have to remind myself I am driving :)
