The boys are back in action for outdoor soccer! Just some new shots, such a nice morning for soccer in March...so unusual for us.

I shoot with a Canon 60D and for soccer I use a Canon 70-300mm F4-5.6 lens. For these shots, I used an ISO of 125 and a shutter speed of 1/1600. The f stops were depending on my focal length of the lens but most were around 4 to 4.5. I never shoot action shots below 1/640 if its darker and most always during the morning and day shot over 1/1000. I like to freeze the action without blur.
If you are having problems with focus, I would use a center focal point only. It allows you to center on the players that you want and not leave it up to the camera because with unexpected movement you might accidentally get the tree or something in the background behind your players in focus instead of the players themselves. It also helps to know the game so you can anticipate where they might be at any given time. Probably more than you wanted to know but well...there it is.

Great action shoots, but you need to be aware of your horizon. It is slanted. For what its worth.

Thanks!...that is exactaly what happens, as far as focus, I will change to center focal point, and yes the lacrosse game moves very fast!.....Very nice photography! You get an A.

These are great!! Wow!!
I like that you caught them with the sun in their faces.
Considering, straightening the images as this will show the players with more leaning, thus showing more action!!
If you think about, try getting down lower to the ground, kneeling or sitting (lower camera angle). I think you will find it worth the effort.
Looking forward to more!!!
Pat

Thanks Pat, someone else mentioned the horizon and that is something I hadn't caught so thanks. I have tried getting lower for some shots but don't like it for all aspects of the game shots I do just for some. There is also a potential problem of being run over as close to the sidelines as I get. Those boys are big and when they start running you'd better get out the way fast so sitting down may not be the best thing! LOL :)
