I have the Nikon gray 80-200 F2.8 VR . . . great lens. I had a Canon shooter tell me anyone who buys that lens, has Canon envy. Who cares. A good lens is a good lens.

Most long Nikon lenses sold in Japan are light grey. Notice the nationality of most of these photographers.

I'm missing the link or image.
I had a grey 300mm f4, bought it on ebay. ended up selling it cause I didn't use it much at the time. Wish I had kept it, heard they were made for the Asian market.
Maybe it's some sort of Nikon-sponsored event, and all the approved photographers are required to wear that vest, no matter what brand of camera they use.

So is this what they mean by Grey Market ?
No - that's something completely different.
Trivia: Black became the "cool" color for cameras and lenses ages ago. A French photographer was doing street shooting including prostitutes and covered his camera with black tape to make his shiny camera less noticeable to the pimps who might beat him up. With manufacturing changes we are now seeing a wide variety of camera colors including bright colors and as discussed above, white.
