An interview with charben,

1) How long have you been into photography and what got you started?
Got a bit more serious about photography after retirement 4 years ago though I have been interest in it for many years

2) Do you have any formal training and what kind of photography do you do most?
No formal training.. like to do landscape and people pictures

3) In your opinion, what makes a good picture stand out from the rest?
I think it starts with good composition though all the other key elements - exposure, color, sharpness have to come together for a good picture..

4) What equipment did you use and was there any special setup? Can you walk us through it?
For this picture, I used the Panasonic FZ35.. No special setup other than making sure that the exposure was long enough for an indoor picture under very dim lighting condition. Picture was taking in the Chihuly Glass and Garden museum in Seattle.

5) Do you post process your final images, and if so can you describe your workflow?
Though I shoot in jpg, I usually adjust my images using Lightroom 5. For this picture, I did tonal adjustments and sharpened the image.

6) Who or what has influenced your photography and what inspired you to take your winning shot?
My father was a great amateur photographer. So I was exposed to photograph at an young age.. My brother is also an avid photographer and I learn from him. There was not specific inspiration other than the fact that the subject (glass balls on a boat) is a very famous piece of work by Chihuly. It was featured in one of his documentary.

7) Would you change anything if you could do it again, and if so what?
use a tripod to take this shoot..

8) What is the one thing you wish you knew when you started taking photos?
The importance of using a tripod is a lessen learn for me..

9) What is your favorite photography accessory, other than your camera?
tripod

10) If you had to choose one lens which one would it be and why?
I was using a digit camera with no interchange lens.

11) What lighting equipment, if any, do you take on a shoot?
No lighting equipment for this shoot..

12) If you couldn't do photography what else would you do?
Cooking is my other hobby..

13) Do you have any funny or interesting stories about your experiences?
Nothing for this shoot other than that every one shoot visit a Chihuly glass museum. He does amazing glass work.

14) Is there somewhere we can see more of your work?
I post my images on Viewbug.. http://www.viewbug.com/member/charben

15) Do you have any advice for the rest of us?
practice makes perfect; so keep on clicking

Great pictures. Like the Chihuly best. Missouri Botanical Garden had a Chihuly exhibit in 2007 and I took several pictures of the exhibit. They bought some of the glass.

While in Oklahoma City recently, I visited the Chihuly exhibit at the Museum of Art.
