I'm in the process of creating a PowerPoint DVD of past class reunions for an upcoming reunion. I have a large volume of photos provided by one of my classmates that have, in rather large font, date stamps in the lower right corner. Any easy way to remove them? I have been successful in a few cases where the stamp was located on same color background by using Photoshop Elements' spot healing brush. But that is time consuming as well as not practical in most cases. Also, due to the composition cropping will not work (don't want to cut off arms, chests, etc.). I am dealing with several hundred of these and could use an easy and fast solution.

I plan on discreetly asking him to not use the date stamp in the future.

I wouldn't waste my time with someone else's photos. Put em up as is and if people squawk then tell em the truth.

Just make sure your portion of the job is a quality product.

Easy fast solution...

Each camera places the stamp in the exact same place.

Identify the cameras (EXIF) place all captures from the camera a unique folder for post processing.

Create an action as follow:
- create a black rectangle over the date
- Save the image

Run the action as a batch, done.

All images will have the same rectangle.

Ugly? Yup. Fast process? Yup.

Anyone complains? Give the photographer(s) phone number.

The only thing that can top his reply is the original post. :-D

Another explanation you can give people if they ask, is that those are the copyright marks. And there is some law against removing them 'eh.

Many of the shots are close up. Cropping would cut off arms, hands, etc. I was able to crop a few.

Right. This isn't an art show. It's time to remember. The dates are irrelevant.

Why not put a small replica of the school mascot over the time stamp?

Don't worry about it, just state that some (or all) of the photos were shared with you & you are sharing "as is". Some might even appreciate knowing the date. While we photographers don't like them, many people are used to it & won't care. Since cropping or hiding them would otherwise ruin the photo just go with it.

[quote=Billbobboy42]Most every Digital camera has exif files which shows date, time and also ISO, shutter speed and aperature. Tell him if he wants to know the date he can always look it up. David

Your going to a class reunion, not an art show. I doubt anyone is going to care if the date may be on some photo's!

well, just to sturr the pot! I have about 8000 family photos taken over the better part of 50 years... Without a date stamp, and after spending several hours, I ended up taking a photo of a photo. I MAKE THE DATE STAMP THE @#$%^ FILE NAME NOW. YOU CAN ALWAYS CROP IT OFF. Oh, BTW, when someone looks at an old photo the FIRST thing usually asked is, "WHEN WAS THIS"? iF YOU WISH TO REMOVE THE DATE, WELL GO AHEAD, BUT i THINK YOU ARE JUST SHOOTING YOURSELF IN THE FOOT..EDM sorry these big paws keep hitting the caps lock.
