Yes, I was out with a fellow shooter taking pictures of the various monkeys at the Central Park Zoo - she was using a Sony NEX7, and I my D800 24-70 F2.8 and 80-200 F2.8. Indoors the lighting levels were so poor that I had to use F4-F5 and ISO 1600, at shutter speeds ranging from 1/30 to 1/60. She was using a 55-210 F4-6.3 and a 16-70 F4. She was unable to get an acceptable image because her ISO was too high and the lenses she was using were soft wide open. These were my results.

Had she a better camera with better low light performance and better lenses (the system behind the camera is more important than the body in most cases), it would have been a more fruitful outing for her. Under normal circumstances and with decent lighting she gets great images. But her gear limited her ability to get good results in marginal conditions. Oh, and her camera and lenses were not weather sealed.

So - yes, the camera "can" matter.

That little guy was hysterical - it was one of several "looks" that he flashed me - done in horrible indoor exhibit light - ISO 1600, F5 - 1/30-1/60 sec

Everything is relative - better quality usually implies bigger "stuff" - the smallest "quality" oriented cameras might be the M4/3 cameras - barely. But they are tiny, light and less expensive. FF cameras might be the middle ground - heavier, bigger, less portable than the M4/3, but better quality images in general, but fairly expensive. The medium format cameras are slow, really heavy, and cost from $10k to $45k or more, but the quality is unparalleled.

I was kidding. I don't have medium format equipment, but in most cases I take my most appropriate equipment on trips & outings reguardless of weight & bulk. I do have a little Canon SL1 that I take to theme parks with grandchildren, but that is as much as I am willing to compromise for portability purposes. Bab

The reason why you see strange answers is because your question has been asked thousands of times over and over again and the same answer is no
You have to figure what purpose you are going to use the camera for.
You might be satisfied with just a point en shoot camera, or medium format camera or professional all give different results
Different lenses have different qualitys, purposes, prices.
Sit down with pencil and paper ask yourself, are going to take pictures of sports, birds landscapes travel or professionally. When you know talk to a sellsman at a camera shop not kamart or bestbuy they can show you different models and lenses because they are all very expensive and you will have to learn your type camera if it doesnt matter to you I would get a Nikon or Canon that most people have so they can help you when you need help. Also take a youtube class on the basics it helps alot. Good luck

Does it matter which camera you choose and use? Recently, I saw a collection of images in the Apple.com iphone gallery that are stunning and very hard to believe they were all taken with an iphone. Just wonder if anyone has seen these pictures and what are your opinions?

YES, YES AND YES! But only if maximum image quality is your goal. If you are just a "snap shooter" any camera will do just fine.
