Mission weddings can be tough. No flash allowed & very dark ........... as tough as they come.

I left the data on this snap ;)

Beautiful image. The resolution and detail are amazing. 30 sec. exposure time yields some nice results. Good job, I felt like I was there experiencing the century old mission How did you approach the wedding with moving people?

Haven't done the wedding yet ............

I often go snap some beautiful pictures of the venue prior to a wedding if I know there is a low light situation.

I've done several low light non-flash weddings. When the couple is up front it isn't hard, 70mm, f/5.6, 800 ISO, 1/60 ..... they aren't moving.

The tough one is the when the father of the bride is walking his daughter down the isle. I talk to everyone prior to the wedding. I give stop/go directions when they are walking the isle. Up with the hand they stop, stand still, smile at someone but hold the pose ......... 5 seconds, snap, snap ....... wave them through ...... works fine ;)

BTW, the above image was Canon 70D, kit lens ;)

Sounds like you have mastery of exposure and directing people. The combination that is. Not an easy task.

I don't think kit lenses are the kit lenses of old. Nikon and Canon are offering some pretty good lenses with new bodies. My Nikon kit lens (24-85) is working great for me. Not as fast as the 24-70, but when you can provide enough light through other means it is giving me impressive results and keeping me from clicking the buy button on the 24-70.

I have a nifty 50 which is a nifty 80 on my cropped sensor but I seldom use it below 2.8.

I think, well I know I have a habit of being a bit on the shallow side so my kit lens at 4.5 - 5.6 back about 15 - 20 feet works well for me.

I agree, the kit lens are very good now days, in fact I just had this conversation with Rockwell, he loves the 18-135mm Canon kit lens and the STM is super quick on the focus.

Wow, just wow. I can't really add anything to this other than wow. You took a very difficult shot, and made it look perfect.

seriously, I am blown away, especially in the detail when downloaded. I don't often pixel peep, but I did on this, and it is wonderful, especially considering how those churches are lit, and using long exposure. (frankly, I'm always in such a rush, I wouldn't have thought of it, but next time I'm in for a tricky one, I'll try it out myself)

Just beautiful.

Really nice.
Low light with no flash. Ouch.
What mission is this?

Please check out my photo's. I could use some advise
on how to shoot low light.

On the 3 ladies I would of gotten the flash off camera and it's a bit harsh, did you use a diffuser? I would of found a way to get more ambient light which would of brought out the backdrop and from the looks of it would of been nice. As the ladies were all in a row you could of gone down to 5.6 maybe even 4.5. At 18mm you could of gone down to 1/30 on the shutter if you told them to stand real still. Using those ideas could of given you much more ambient light.

On the church picture your DOF is to shallow and the point sampled was not correct. I would of gone out to F/14, sampled 1/3 into the distance, lowered my ISO and shot an extra long exposure, probably around 10 seconds .......

Thanks very much for the Critique.
I'm getting some off camera lighting soon.
The Lens I was using was my Sigma 17-70.
I was shooting at ISO 500 f/9 with the on camera flash
for the ladies.

I will give your advice a try.. Thanks very much.

Hey, I don't have a view over looking Morro Bay like you do, but the pier is a great view at sunset.
The cobra is a fun ride for sure. light weight carbon fiber body makes it a screamer of a ride.
