I pulled the trigger on the Sigma 50-500mm OS. It was a tough decision that I have thought about for some time. With the help of MT Shooter, Brian Bicoastal on Nikonians and others here I narrrowed down to the Sigma 150-500 OS and 50-500 OS. Since I like to shoot auto races as well as wildlife and might be heading to the 12 hours of Sebring in a couple weeks, the decision leaned towards the 50-500 OS because this is the only lens I'll need to carry to the race.

I have been saving my lunch money for some time, so I hope this Sigma is worth it!!

I ordered from BH Photo today.

The Bigma (50-500) arrived late today. When I got home I opened the box. First impression was wow what a nice lens, well made and nicely packaged. I hooked it up to my Nikon D7000 and went out back just to see how the autofocus & OS worked....well even more impressed. The lens fit perfectly on the D7000 and the finish is first class. The autofocus was quick & silent without hunting in very low light at even F11 (I didn't try past this) at all focal lengths. The OS was also quick and without drama.

So far the Bigma has exceeding my expectations!!
All I can say now is I am very impressed with this Sigma lens, but the proof will come in actual image quality, which is why you buy a lens.

I did get to take some test images late today with the Sigma 50-500 OS. I placed a back-focus test chart about 50 feet away on a chair across the patio. I wanted to check for any back or front focus lens issues.

I did some quick test images at 500, 400, 300, 200, 100 and 50mm @ F6.3, 8, 11, 16 & 22.

No back or front issues were found. The Sigma was sharp at every FL and apature I tested, very sharp indeed!! I was worried the Nikon D7000 would not read the lens information correctly, no more worries!!!

I am very impressed with this Sigma lens.
