D7200 Pre-order, where from?

Hey gang. I feel a GAS attack coming on, want to add a D7200 to my arsenal. I'm an Amazon Prime member, so I can get free shipping when it's released if I order there. My question is, out of all the usual suspects like B&H, Adorama, KEH, Cameta and smaller players like Roberts, Precision, etc., who will more likely have them in stock first, based on the vast experience of the UHH community? Are some pre-orders more equal than others? Thanks in advance...

You have just started what's called a "Guessing Game," with members offering evidence for why their choice will most likely get the camera first.

My advice? Order from any big seller. There shouldn't be a big difference between the timing of these big dealers. On the other hand, members have posted how they've gotten new cameras from small, local dealers when the big guys didn't have them. I got my D600 from Crutchfield when no one else had them.

Some pre-orders are indeed more equal! The earliest pre-order is more important than the last, at any one given company. That's obvious of course...

But the last at Company A may get filled on the same day as the first pre-order at Company B. That is not so obvious and the ramifications are huge.

The larger the company, the more pre-orders, and therefore the longer it takes to work through the entire list. You don't want to order from B&H, for example, if you aren't at the front of the line, if there turns out to be a huge demand, or if you are in a hurry. (If they process 25 orders for that camera a day... and have 2000 orders already on the day they start shipping, you don't want to decide on that day to order from them!)

A few months into production, the big stores are just as fast as anyone; but on the first day the way to go is to pick up the phone and start calling small independent stores. Find somebody that has a camera in stock that is not spoken for yet. Buy it. They will ship within a couple of days.

Is there a release date?
Precision will probably have it in the back room before the release date. Call them.
My tip?
Acid Reducer....

I ordered mine Tuesday morning from B&H. It's a crap shoot for sure. Anyone's guess is as good as another's. ;)

Nikon, Canon, etc., will have their products at dealers before the release date, but they cannot be shipped before that date.

One advantage of preferring one dealer over another.

I have found that in every case, without exception, whether it's a camera body or a lens, a local dealer will always be the first to have it. At least in my experience this was true with the 70-200 VR II, the D800, and the D750. Put an order in with your favorite local dealer and you will likely have yours while those who ordered over the internet will still be waiting.

Amazon has starting charging sales tax in Maryland. My first choice is always B&H. They will put you on a waiting list and email you every couple of weeks to give you the status. Great place and honest and no sales tax or shipping. Shipping from NYC to MD is usually 2 days.

Don't you pay an extra fee to be a Prime member at Amazon as well as sales tax? I think the rest is a guessing game, as to who will get and ship first. My first choice is always B&H, but I am not knocking the other players, either.

Hi MR. - I pre-ordered my 1st D7100 from B&H, free shipping, they don't use your card until they ship. I received my D7100 before anyone claimed they had 1, including Amazon.. Have Fun. :)
