I just purchased a Canon Power Shot SX60, instead, should I have gone with the Canon Power Shot SX50 and Why?

Thank You in Advance.

Depends on what you use it for, how big an issue budget is (since you already purchased I am guessing it is not crucial) and how it has performed for you so far.

It's on it's way, still in transit, I have an SX 40, that I love, but I wanted more magnification.

I was looking at some reviews, after purchase, on different websites, and found this one; one said the SX50 takes better pictures and is half the price, did I make a mistake? should I have purchased the SX50 instead?

Thank You for responding.

I'm going to photograph backyard wild birds with it, is the picture quality as good as the Canon SX50?

Thank you for responding.

The main advantage of the SX50 over the SX60 is lowlight shooting. Are you shooting birds in low light or during the day?

My basic reaction is that if it is backyard daylight bird shots the SX60 is the better choice due to the zoom.

I do think for an all purpose camera the SX50 might be better for many. And most reviews are targeted at a general all purpose user. But if your focus is backyard birding, you should be quite happy witht he extra reach of the SX60.

I have had an SX40, SX50, and currently the SX60. I really think the image quality of the SX50 is a little better than the SX60. In my opinion, Canon probably should have stayed with the 12 MP sensor.

That being said, the SX60 has a number of advantages over the SX50. The electronic viewfinder and LCD are much better. The AF seems a little slower but tracks much better. The low light performance is improved slightly. The video performance also has been improved. The SX60 feels more solid in my hands than either the SX40 or SX50.

For me, I prefer the SX60 over the SX50. The maximum telephoto between the two is not that big of a difference given the slight drop in image quality. On the wide angle side, the 21mm (35mm equiv.) of the SX60 versus the 24mm (35mm equiv.) of the SX50 is quite noticeable.

I have probably muddied the waters with my opinions.

My daughter just purchased a canon SX60 a few months ago and loves it. I will post a few photo's to show ho w far it can reach, closer then my 500mm lens. These are all from the same location not moving any closer.

I don't think you can go wrong with either camera. I have the SX50 and my Dad has the SX60 and we have gone shooting together several times and have compared the same shots. I think they are very similar regarding image quality. I think the SX60 has been alittle sharper here and there on some shots we compared but there's always camera shake that could explain it. I will say that the dial on the top of the SX60 is a big improvement over the SX50 in my opinion. I think you're going to be extremely happy with your purchase. Happy shooting!

Thank you, haroldross, I see from your review there are advantages over the SX50, believe me, when it comes to taking photos with these new digital cameras and all their setting, every help is much appreciated.

My old camera was, put in the film, point and shoot.

The image quality is quite good for such a small sensor. Checking the store original would have given us a better sense of how good it.

It think the OP has nothing to be concerned about.

Thank you, Laura, I'm hearing good things about the SX60 and it's improvements, making me more excited and not so anxious that a mistake has been made in choosing this camera over the SX50.
