Hi guys, I just returned from the hospital after having an aortic heart valve replacement operation and am weak from the ordeal, but after logging onto the computer this morning, I have been uplifted by seeing that Canon is to release their new 50.6 megapixel Canon EOS 5DS R DSLR Camera sometime this upcoming June and, as you know, I am going to have one of them :)

Anyone else among us that feels the same ?

I am not looking for a Canon camera but I am happy your surgery went well and you are home. Continued healing and wellness to you.

Sure I'm ready but, since I have so much money tied up in glass for my Nikon, I'll have to wait until they come out with their version.....you know they will

Wishing you a speedy recovery :D

You'll need a pocket full of 128GB memory cards to go on a 1/2 day shoot.
And you'll need to install a main frame computer in the guest room so you can PP the huge raw files.
Glad your home & on the mend. Good luck

Both Canon and Sony are going to release their 50MP cameras. But my question is how many people are ready to spend the money to buy the lenses that can make full use of the 50MP? In talking to the sales person at the local camera store (mainly a Sony specialist), Sony recently redesigned one of their more popular lenses and just release six more today. He indicated that of all the Canon lenses, only about 8 lenses were capable of the 50MP resolution and only 5 of the lenses were truly more than just adequate. This means that both Canon and Sony will have to redesign most of their lenses to accommodate the 50MP. That also means one needs to buy new lenses or at least one or two new lenses for the 50MP.

After doing some more reading upon the subject, I will abstain from purchasing the new Canon Camera. Am thinking that my Nikon D810 cameras will get the job done very nicely without having a need for the 50 megapixels..

Until Canon or any other company can come up with lenses to handle 50 megapixels, I cannot see a need for such a camera !

Hopefully, later on this Spring, I will get back into action and begin taking some photos again.. Until then, I will be resting up and trying to recover from my heart valve replacement procedure.. I hope that none of you ever have a need to have the procedure performed because subsequent to the procedure, the pain associated with it is off the charts !

Thanks to all for replying and for your kind words !

~Doug~

At this time, I have little interest in these two new Canon cameras. I'll wait to see if they put out a 5D MK IV.

Hey, ZSG,
Waking up each morning must feel especially good! Glad you're on the mend. I sure like the sound of 50-plus megapixels, but I'm afraid I cN't stand the gaff of new lenses! I'd best stick with 24 Mp for a while and take full advantage of all that has to offer.
Keep on the smooth road of recovery.

I don't know where this "sales person" got his information but I don't think he was giving you correct information. Based on his statement camera companies would have to change lenses evey time they increased MP's. The present Canon lenses will not only fit the new cameras but are capable of presenting sharp images well beyond the 50MP range. I don't know anything about Sony.

I am not planning on buying the Canon. It seems like one awesome piece of equipment. Get up and move about so you will make a full recovery.

I'm glad that the surgery went well and that you are well. No, I'm not interested in 50MP.
