I am thinking of purchasing the sony a6000, I am looking for a smaller camera then my nikon D810 for running around with. I travel a lot and instead of lugging my camera with all my good stuff I am looking to travel abit lighter. Any thoughts?

I have the a6000 and really like it. There is a bit of a learning curve.

Go ahead, it's a great camera with excellent reviews and best of all it is very much lighter and less bulk. Also the price has recently gone down. You won't be disappointed...

I have one and have a love/hate relationship. It takes great photos and has great manual focus helps. It has a fatal flaw which I never realized until I owned it. I sometimes want to shoot video with it, or use a flash. Sony has put a very proprietary hotshoe that on many cameras is intermittent. They did not put a 3.5mm jack for external microphone. You can only use Sony microphones and they have to be mounted on the camera. The available microphones are crappy. This makes using the video problematic. Good video needs good audio and in-camera audio picks up camera noise and ambient noise. This so-called multi-interface shoe also means you have to use Sony made flash units. It is also buggy and on some cameras, intermittent.

I would not buy it again. But if all you want is no-flash photos, the images are great and easy to shoot.

You won't be disappointed--unless you want to shoot videos. Some subjects--like my grand daughter's first steps demand video.

I have the sony a6000 and added the Vario (Zeiss) lens 16-70 mm last September. The kit lens is very good but there is noticeable improvement with the 16-70mm. If you think you will use the camera a lot you will probably be happier with the more expensive lens. The camera is outstanding and has numerous useful features.

Have you compared it to the Panasonic LX100?

I got one because the 70D was larger than what I wanted for the motorcycle. I really like it and even with a spare 55-210 lens it is half the size of the 70D bag.

Image quality is as good as the 70D and after a learning curve it is just what I needed.

If you get one you will need to get a manual or find instruction on the net. The instructions that come with it barely tell you how to put in the battery and turn it on.

You will probably also want a couple of extra batteries. It sure eats them fast.

With the LX100 I'm talking about, you don't buy a lens. It is fixed. Lots of reviews are saying the Leica lens is stunning. I'm not finding an exception!
