A typical use might be to determine when the sun will set along the axis of a mountain valley, or when a full moon rise will rise across a lake."

The thought occurred to me that how long before sun set with the sun getting within an hour or so can be calibrated on our camera screens. That is to say, with a line for the horizon and dots representing lower edge of the sun a close estimate can be made.
