Mushroom heaven

I have a habit of laying on the ground and becoming completely absorbed in Mushroom photography. Thought I would share a few here and ask you what you think.
I used my Nikon d5100 and a Nikkor 18-300 zoom lens.

All of them appear lighter than I like to see.

Monitors can (& do) vary. The first shot is definitely over-exposed, but the others look okay on my monitor. I really like #3 & #4. :-) :-)

#3 is cool - almost looks like the cap is upside down :)

#1 - the focus seems best on the little plant beside the mushroom, so wondering what you'd think of cropping top of image to the spot on mushroom where it starts getting darker? Make that one more about the little green growth in the shade of the cap?

Thanks Linda. Yes I had a huge area behind the mushroom that was almost blown out with light. Your idea would have been the answer to getting a better image. I did crop but it still wasn't enough. As with my macro photos, I still need to work on focus as well.
I cropped the first one again. What do you think?
Added two more that Douglass might like because they are darker and the lighting is better. I didn't have my macro lens or my speed light with me. That would have probably made a big difference on the first one. Even a polarizing lens would have helped. It was one of those bright and sunny days with lots of shadows.

The only one that appears over-exposed on my screen is the first one, Riverlass. The others don't, and I just love the third one with the beautiful colors and bokeh. I wish I could find a mushroom heaven as pretty as the one you found. :-)

I love all your shots, Riverlass! Wish I could lie down and get shots like yours, but I'd never get up! :)

Thanks Sue, I'm getting the same way. I have to be careful and be sure that there is something to hold on to when I get back up. Sometimes, on steep hills, I lean down and take pictures without looking through the lens at all. I kind of guess. Then I keep looking at the monitor and illuminate the shots I don't like. Also, the D5100 has a pull out monitor that I can angle. I don't like using it. I would rather get down on the ground. Guess I'm just a old kid that likes to get up close and personal with my subjects. I'm 70 years old so I'm afraid this won't last much longer.

Challenging subjects. Nicely done. I hear you about the difficulty of getting back up!
