Taken near Mt. Rainier National Park. A single meteor briefly flares through the sky. The Andromeda Galaxy is visible at the top center of the image. This galaxy is larger than our own, with an estimated 1 Trillion stars contained within while the Milky Way contains a "mere" 200 to 400 Billion stars! It's 2.5 million light years away and getting closer. The projection is it will collide with the Milky Way in about 3.75 Billion years. Time is short :)
Single image taken with Canon 60D, 16-35mm lens at 16mm, 20 sec exposure at F/2.8, iso 3200.

Thanks Craig. Got lucky with the meteor. I didn't know I got it until I saw it on the monitor. I'm hoping I can get under the Perseids or Leonids in clear skies this year. Attempting to image those could be fun.

Yes!!! I look forward to a couple good moonless showers.
Nice! How far out in the sticks did you go? If you just did this you must've frozen your you-know-what off. Do use something to warm your camera or lens?

Thanks Skylane! I wasn't too far out in the sticks. I found a logging road that opened up into a small clearing. No traffic and no lights, maybe 2 or 3 miles from the Nisqually entrance to the park. I took this last September. A little crisp but not freezing. Whatever temps I'm out in, I try to keep my camera and lenses at the same temp as the environment. For colder weather, I keep an extra battery warm but that's about it.
This is really neat- clear color, sharp... very nice
