Take a look at page 143 in this Panasonic Manual:

http://service.us.panasonic.com/OPERMANPDF/DMCFZ200_ADV.PDF

Panasonic chooses to not call it Vibration Reduction and instead calls it Stabilizer.

Nice camera! Good luck.

ok, thanks, and do you know where to find it and whether you need to turn it off when using a tripod?

It's in the Rec menu. Generally Stabilization is intended to reduce shake induced from hands holding. Generally, Stabilization has the potential of causing some fuzziness if the camera is on a rock solid platform like a tripod.

Many go so far as to leave it off unless you need it to compensated for slower shutter speeds.

I turn mine off when on a tripod. Took some night shots and the pinpoint lights were smeared. The smears took random directions, squiggles, etc. Remembered the recommendation in general to shut iS off when on a tripod. Turned it off and the next photos were tack sharp (all with a remote release and sturdy tripod.) There is a great manual for the FZ200 on line by Graham Houghton. If you don't have it get it. Don

Good info, thanks. Still can't find where to turn it off, and I do have both the hard copy and online copy of the manuals, which I have scoured for the answer. Maybe you can help since you have done it.

It's a menue item. In the photo section (top category with a camera icon) panel #4 , 3 lines sown. A button on the body would have been sooo much quicker.

Don is correct. Make sure you are in the PASM dial mode.

I have a Lumix DMC FZ70 Maybe it might have the same menu
Turn on the menu, then on REC scroll down until you come to STABILIZER Use the>on the wheel cursor then choose ON or OFF then Set. Hopefully this helps...
