Mea culpa.

In an recent post, I presumed to submit images of my partner and me without actually saying it was my partner and "me." It was more so a desire to remain in the background --anonymous, if you will -- while receiving the benefit of a the group's C&C. And, thus receiving -- and maybe avoiding -- fully candid criticism, along with the personal sting that might come with it. Admittedly, I had not thought through all the implications and ramifications that such an act might have.

So, for this, I apologize. I'm truly sorry.

So, here, once again, for your edification, education and mine, is my own self-portrait, along with my forced, artificial, "sh*t-eating smile, yellow teeth, and all.

Contritely,

dsp
a.k.a, David

I like the photo a lot. It has a nice background, good lighting, you look great, and gives a good impression of you. Well done, sir.

hi David, nice photo, but a couple of little things stand out to me. The specular highlight on your head and collar is too hot imho. Also I don't know you, so just going by the photo, your smile looks "fake" and reminds me of snake oil salesmen. No disrespect intended to you my good sir. Perhaps try again and go for a "smaller" smile?

So, snake oil salesman, eh?!?
Hmmm . . . and what about my yellow teeth? You forgot to mention them.

As for the smile, what can I say? It was addressed in this topic's introduction. Truth be told, I'm not particularly into selfies, nor am I a real smiley kind of guy. So, admittedly, it's kind of hard for me to generate a so-called, "real;" authentic smile -- particularly when I'm running back and forth between the camera and my "pose." I tried the PetaPixel suggestion of saying, "Cheeks!" but that obviously didn't work too well. So, maybe next time --if there is one -- I'll try to remember your sage advice. Anyway, I'm much more comfortable behind the camera than in from of it.

In any case, tsilva, thanks for your comment and critique.
You're also to be commended for your astute judge of character. ;-)

Be well.

Well, DSP,
Frankly, with your other posts, I figured it was you (by looking at your Avatar, or that you hung around with your twin.

My hat is off my bald head to you for doing a portrait of yourself in the first place. As for fake smiles, I'm accused of the exact same thing. I think that's why I'm always the one on the other side of the lens.

Actually, bkyser, I changed my avatar after all of this started. Dare I say, I decided to come out of the closet and expose myself. The avatar is probably a more accurate depiction of my charming personality than is the self-portrait.

Truth be told, the whole thing was simply an exercise that my significant other/partner/whatever and I did this past weekend because we were snowed in and were somewhat restless and bored. Too, she wanted/needed a "Biz Portrait" for her work-related social media connections. So, I was available, joined the Frey, and the rest, as they say, is history.

Finally, be careful when, where and for whom you take the hat off your old, bald head . . . it's too cold out there!! You don't want to risk getting pneumonia! :-)

Be well and thanks for writing.

I'm always a few days behind. I saw your uploads yesterday, and you had this same Avatar. I saw that you weren't mentioning that it was you, so thought maybe you were a twin...or a pod person.

The image looks good to me. The hair light looks a little hot but not bad. The clarity of the portrait is very nice. I will now be looking for your other post. Keep shooting, Colorado is one of my favorite places to be.

Thank you, sir. I agree that it (the hair light) is a little hot -- just a "leetle." The light was at its lowest setting, so I need to put some kind of diffusion/filter on it. I also checked out your Smugmug site, including your portraits. I really like the softness of whatever you are using for your key light. Is that a soft box, or what? And what size?

And, yes, Colorado is one of my favorite places as well. Come back and shoot more. There is some amazing beauty to capture!

Thank you for your comments. I used softboxes of different sizes. I have a 24", 36", and 60". When the daughter lived in Leadville I visited as often as I could but she has moved to Santa Barbara and I want to move there.
