As I sit here on UHH, my son has the TV on, and there's one drug commercial after another. This relates to an article I read a couple of days ago. Aside form New Zealand, we are the only country that lets drug companies spend billions of dollars advertising drugs. People go to their doctors, request those drugs, and the doctors prescribe them.
What's the result of the big push by big pharma? We take more drugs than any other nation, and we have the worst health. Maybe we need more drugs. Fortunately, all the drugs are thoroughly tested before being released to the public. The drug companies themselves do the testing to assure us that their profitable products are harmless and effective, thus saving taxpayers the cost of testing. I guess it's a win/win.
Oh, that reminds me - I have to take my pills.
It's the only "industry" we seem to be able to grow these days. Notice that while they describe the side effects (including death) we are treated to visions of attractive folks smiling and doing fun things!! Hmmmm. Aesop's fables come to mind. The word "sly" flies through my mind.
Marketing has become much more successful since psycho;ogical and sociological studies have unraveled the triggers that motivate us.
Thank you, Pavlov & Skinner.

They spend the first half of those Med Commercials touting the benefits of their new wonder drug and then have some silver tongued spokesmen list the many side affects that may harm or even kill you, with such a soothing voice, how can you not believe them!!
After a few weeks of drug commercials, we get the lawyers wanting you to go after them for bad drugs.
Once, I seen a commercial for a drug and the lawyer was on the same week saying they sold some bum dope and wanted to go after them.

The rediculous IRONY doesnt end there. I've seen too many ads targeting those that "owe the government back taxes" to the tune of $$$$$$ many dollars, that some law firms can&will, get you out of paying... Isn't that just great(?) for those of us that actually pay our fair(?) share of taxes? How much money is being made for these law-firms to pay for all the ads, & still be profitable.. Start being cognizant of who and what pays for advertisments, before buying any product be leary...

I've heard those lawers say "If you've suffered any of these side affects or died to please call their law office"! Wonder how many calls they get from those dead people?

Does "near death experience" count?

The problem doesn't end there. There is a defacto interrelationship between big pharma and big food. Big food sells us food laced with ingredients that cause chronic disease and then big pharma sells us drugs to keep us alive so we can buy more bad food so we can buy more durgs and so on. And if someone calls these reprobates out they are dumped on by the paid enablers of this unholy alliance as un-American.

When I was on holiday in New Zealand I needed some anti-biotics.
When I was waiting for them, I noticed an A4 sized advert for some medication or other and at the bottom was written
as tested on Australians! Love Kiwi humor.
Nobody is allowed to advertise drugs here in Australia.

Most antibiotic use in this country is for farm animals, which we eventually eat.

But of course NO drug is tested in the setting of a patient already taking ten other medications. So it's still a crap shoot. And of course we Pay for those advertisements! Any medication advertised will cost at least $200 per month if not far more. That new toenail fungus liquid being advertised? - A little bottle is almost $500! Abilify - the higher doses are about $800 per month! People without insurance just don't buy these, and people with insurance may pay a $50 or $100 copayment and think that is outrageous. And many people complain that their insurance premiums are high - they just don't get it! There is no control on costs, and the way our insurance works (and the fact that many people's premiums are covered by employers) isolates many Americans from the real (grotesquely elevated) costs of health care in our country.
