Should a colorblind person be banned from judgeing a
photo-contest?

Color is one aspect of many in an image.

Judging from some of the over-processed photo's I've seen,
I think a color blind judge would be refreshing. ;)

Besides, the people I've known who had color blindness only suffered from certain spectrum losses.
They didn't see everything in Black & White.

If the person is one of several judges then no, as long as the judge is qualified AND consistent I think it may improve the judgement.

If the colourblind person was the only judge then yes unless the contest was for B/W photos only.

I would rephrase that as "Colour is one aspect of many in an image to be judged in a contest."

The only thing I would not trust a person with red-green deficiency to do is deactivate an explosive device.

I agree - as long as the color-blind person personally acknowledges their limitations. Composition, contrast, lighting, and other aspects of the photo can be judged reasonably by this judge.

There are SOME things a color-blind person shouldn't do.... As a physician I was consulted by a patient to perform a DOT (commercial truck driving) physical. On vision testing he could not tell red from green. He was really ticked off that I refused to pass him!

Yes, unless all they care about is composition and focus. It might seem like prejudice against the "disabled," but would you want a blind pilot flying you across the ocean?

"Banned", NO! But the degree of color blindness could be a concern. Does this contest have a singular judge or a committee of judges? I recall being told that most men, perhaps 75%, have some level of colorblindness; fortunately we recognize it and have learned not to argue with the wife about decorating colors--it's a losing battle anyway.

I think three questions to consider before they are appointed would be: Have they judged before? Were the contestants satisfied with the judging (even if they didn't win)? Does the theme of the contest require critical evaluation of colors?

My two cents.

Exactly. Only very few color blind people see the world in black & white only.

A couple of years ago, someone posted a very good color test here. There were rows of similar colors - rows of green, red, etc. You had to re-order the color swatches from darkest to lightest. That would show you how good you were at differentiating shades of colors. I'm sure someone can find it and re-post.

This isn't the one I recall, but you might want to try it. I passed.

Due to makeup of the macular area of the retina consisting of cones and not rods, people who see only B&W are also legel blind.
