I just noticed that some of the Nikon D610 are selling really cheap but they were made in Turkey or Malaysia and no warranty. I wonder did any of you buy one and how good does it work?

Really..? I thought they were made by a Hobbit toiling in a hollowed out tree in a jungle in Thailand.

Actually the Canon's are built there in Turkey. Turkey!

After looking at a bunch of sites.. . I got the D750 and also looked at the D610 as it was almost a toss-up.

Some of these sites are unnerving. . .they advertise the foreign models to grab you with the price (I guess) , but then are hesitant to sell you one if not even refusing to.

What I did learn was the ones from China or thereabouts, are plastic internally where the USA models are metal. . . IF I was being given he right information.

I personally would not buy one from Turkey or Malaysia that comes with NO warranty at all, even though I am a full-blooded-bargain-meister. But you have free will, of course, and it's tempting.

I finally got a NEW full NIKON USA warranty D750 package from daxmart.com for $1999 delivered.

I haggled a bit, without even realizing I was doing so and the guy was quick to drop the price a couple hundred.

This seemed to me a fairly decent deal and I suspect you might get a good deal with them on the D610 too.

That's about all I can say. . .<good luck>

Hobbits live and work in Hobbiton, which is actually in New Zealand. Unless they were kidnapped and forced to work in a Thai factory.

Quite astute. They were forced to labor four-in-hand under the Windsor ringmaster.

You will have a hard time finding anyone here who has bought a D610 made in Turkey or Malaysia because they were never made in those countries. They are made in Thailand. Maybe imported from those countries. I really wish you would check your sources before you post such silliness here.

FWIW, I would not buy one from Nigeria or Cambodia either.

BTW, welcome to the forum, I think.

I saw them from Malaysia....doesn't mean they were made there, though. Who knows what lurks. . .

Give the guy a break though. It's like anything that's new to anyone. . .you go through embarrassing growing pains, (and the internet just adds to the confusion sometimes.) We've all been there, and I am just barely crawling out of that space. . .I think. . .not quite sure yet. . . whoops, slipped again, dammit.

Nah.
Hobbits toil away just down the road here in Cambridge, New Zealand.
Thought Peter Jackson had told everybody that
You do see a lot of Nikons there so maybe you got the Hobbit part right :)
On the other hand, gosh, there is a lot of misinformation posted at times.

I would take a VERY close look at the warranty documentation that came with that camera if I were you.

They said it was FULL NIKON US WARRANTY.
When it arrives, what should I look for to make sure it is the real deal?

First the box will have a "D750 (U)" designation on the white label end of it. Second, the warranty slip inside will clearly state it comes with a USA Warranty and the serial number on the warranty slip needs to match the serial number on the body. (All USA D750's serial number starts with a "3")
Daxmart (SeaViewCamera) is a well known, and well documented bait and switch seller and is NOT an "Authorized Nikon Retailer" so if you DID happen to get a genuine Nikon USA product from them at any price, its very likely USED, check the shutter count of your first shot to see if it is shutter count "1".
I sincerely hope you don't get ripped-off, but that's exactly what happens to people who buy below MAP from them.

OH CRAP
I could have gotten almost the same deal at B&H
Crap - Crap - Crap

Well, they did say I can return the product . . .
All I can do is wait and see now.

Did I already say CRAP?

Maybe all is not lost though.
Worse case scenario:
It has no US warranty and they wont refund you.
I have owned about 15 Nikon, both film and digital cameras, for way over 40 years and have never had a warranty claim.
I have used and abused them in all sorts of situations and they have come through everything Ive thrown at them.
How many here have ever had a warranty claim.
Just trying to give you a bright side :)
It just may be a cheap lesson and you saved a few bucks.
