I received a Tokina AT-X Pro Macro 100F 2.8D lense for Christmas and can't seem to get it to attach or work correctly with my Nikkon D3100. I am just new to photography so I am not even sure if this is a compatable lense? Any advice would be helpful?

I would go to their site and search there. I don't know what others call their mounts. But Nikon is an F mount.

Sounds like it is definitely a different camera mount. Don't force it!
I have this lens along with the Tokina 11-16 and a Nikon D7000. They are always tricky to put on as there isn't a small white dot to guide you like on a Nikon lens. That said, one they are on both Tokina's are awesome for the money.

"Attach" and "work correctly" are two different things. Can you get it to fit into, rotate and click home locked on your camera? If not then you have a lens for something other than a Nikon body. By the way there is no "E" at the end of lens, for future reference. If you can get the lens to fit the camera, rotate and click home locked in position but soemthing else with the lesn is not functioning, then there must be another issue with either the lens or with you. Let us know first extactly what the problem is and then we can move forward to help you. I have both Nikon and Tokina lenses.

Going back to the question as to the lens attaching to your camera without forcing - Is the lens mount the same as the lens that came with your D3100? Does (did) the box specify that it is a Nikon mount? If the lens mount is wrong or damaged of course don't force it.
IF the lens does fit on your camera and "doesn't work correctly" - I'm assuming you mean auto focus. The Nikon D3100 does not have an internal focusing motor so non AF-S or AF-I lenses will not auto focus. See page 53 on your owners manual.
The "D" on your Tokina AT-X Pro Macro 100F 2.8D (and no AF-S or AF-I) means that you will have to manually focus that lens on your D3100. Turn off the "Auto Focus button on the lens if it has one.
I have an AF VR-Nikkor 80 - 400mm 4.5-5.6D lens which auto focuses on my other cameras but not my wife's Nikon D3100. When I use that lens on the D3100 I manually focus which is a blessing with the shallow depth of field on that lens at 400mm.
From what I've read you have a very excellent lens with your Tokina, and your Nikon D3100 is a great camera to learn photography with. I hope this helps.
Thanks KDyar. You answered my question completely. I appreciate your explanation and patience.

Your very welcome I'm glad I could help. I hope you learn and grow in photography and enjoy photography as much as I do - and I dare say as much as we all do here on this forum. Well Wishes.
Sounds like a camera mount problem. They may have sent you
a lens with the wrong mount. I have the Tokina 100mm-2.8 for
on my Canon t2i, and have had no problem with it.

Not intending to make the original poster feel bad, just an observation . . . I was surprised no one pointed it out . . . especially those Kannan users who claim no one ever misspells Nikon. :P

Who cares and I don't want to go there. I am not going to diss Canon or Canon users. I am dyslexic I never saw the misspelling but if you look back in the posts I actually helped the OP. "Not intending to make the original PO feel bad" - or the rest of us? Then why bother with your post. Get a life and have a good night.

Wow! That doesn't even warrant a response. I am glad most people on here have a sense of humor. Apparently you do not.
